The Newtown Action Alliance has endorsed Rob Menendez’s campaign for the New Jersey’s 8th Congressional District. Menendez for Congress now has the endorsements of Everytown for Gun Safety, Brady PAC, and now the Newtown Action Alliance.
“Newtown Action Alliance is proud to endorse Rob Menendez, who has made a commitment to keep our children and families safe by supporting lifesaving legislation such as assault weapons ban, Ethan’s Law to keep kids safe from unsecured guns, and universal background checks,” said Newtown Action Alliance Chairwoman Po Murray. “It’s been 10 years since our neighbor used an AR15 to kill 20 children and six educators at Sandy Hook Elementary School. It’s time for America to take a bold stand to end the gun violence public crisis by electing gun safety candidates like Rob Menendez in New Jersey and beyond. “
“I am proud to have earned the support of the Newtown Action Alliance,” said Rob Menendez. “It is appalling that we are still having to fight for common-sense gun safety reforms almost ten years after the horrific Sandy Hook school shooting. Many lives could have been saved had real action been taken in its wake. In Congress, I will address our national crisis of gun violence with the urgency it deserves and I will push my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to do so as well. While there have been recent successes for gun safety, we must do more including a federal assault weapons ban. I look forward to working with the Newtown Action Alliance on organizing to achieve the goals of the gun safety movement.
The Newtown Action Alliance was founded by residents of Newtown, Connecticut in the wake of the Sandy Hook school shooting that took the lives of 20 children and 6 staff members – the deadliest shooting at an elementary school in U.S. history.
Since then, the Alliance has worked to advocate for gun safety legislation and cultural change to address mass shootings in the United States.
