Rob Menendez has been endorsed by Garden State Equality (GSE), New Jersey’s largest LGBTQ+ advocacy organization. Under Garden State Equality’s leadership, New Jersey has become one of the most LGBTQ+ friendly states in the nation.
“I am proud to have earned Garden State Equality’s endorsement for many reasons, but most of all because I have had the honor of knowing GSE’s founding leaders – Thomas Prol and Steven Goldstein – for a long time and along with Christian, have seen their dedication to the cause first-hand,” said Rob Menendez. “I am privileged to live in a state that is at the forefront of equality because of GSE’s work. In a post-Dobbs world, we need to continue to fight at the federal level to protect marriage equality and to repel attacks on the transgender community, including vicious attacks on transgender children. As a family member and friend of LGBTQ+ people, and as a father who wants my children to grow up in a world without hate, I will always stand with GSE and the LGBTQ+ community.”
“Rob is a true ally for LGBTQ equality. Long before he decided to run for office, he would show up to Garden State Equality events, not for votes, but to support a cause important to him,” said Garden State Equality Executive Director Christian Fuscarino. “There is not a doubt in my mind that Rob Menendez will be a champion for LGBTQ equality in Congress—not just signing onto pro-equality bills, but also spearheading difficult conversations to address the many barriers so many in our community still face when it comes to experiencing lived equality.”
Established in 2004, Garden State Equality has over 150,000 members, and is one of the successful statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights organizations in the nation. GSE’s services include advocacy, policy work, and trainings. GSE’s lawsuit Garden State Equality v. Dow established marriage equality in New Jersey, two years before the landmark Obergefell v. Hodges landmark Supreme Court decision.
