“As a veteran of the Vietnam War, a Newark civil servant for decades, and the longest-serving Black state legislator in New Jersey history, Senator Rice has established a legacy of service in this state that is unmatched.
“Throughout his career, he has pushed our State and leaders to put people ahead of politics. Senator Rice has always ensured that the needs of underrepresented residents and communities are at the forefront of policy and political conversations and has been relentless and committed to doing so no matter who he has had to stand up to.
“His service to the 28th District, to the State of New Jersey, and to our country is a model for all those in office or seeking office. His retirement is well-earned, and I know that this is not the last that we will be hearing from him.”
